  • Humanitarian & Community

The Zanzibar International Film Festival -- known as the Festival of the Dhow Countries -- is held each July in Old Fort in Zanzibar's Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Founded in 1997 as a non-profit promoting the region's cultural heritage through film and media, ZIFF presents international and indigenous films across venues simultaneously. Its centrepiece is an open-air cinema in the Old Fort's atmospheric amphitheatre, screening under the stars for audiences from across the Indian Ocean world.

The broader programme spans features, documentaries, and shorts from Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, with additional screenings at Forodhani Garden, the Mambo Club, the House of Wonders, and outdoor cinemas in Chake Chake and Wete on Pemba Island.
