The Point Drive-In Theatre on Route 11 in Northumberland, Pennsylvania has run Horror Fest -- a Halloween outdoor movie marathon -- across two consecutive October weekends for around eight years. The 2008 edition nearly didn't happen: the power company cut electricity on the second weekend, claiming a $317 overdue balance, costing owner David Renn roughly $3,000 in lost business and one-third of the festival's season.

“This is a weekend business, so if they called me during the week, no one was here,” Renn said. “But I'm in the phone book -- they could have tracked me down.” Power was restored midweek and the third and final weekend of Horror Fest proceeded as planned.
