London, UK: Outdoor Movies at the Serpentine Gallery in London's Kensington Gardens

  • Venues & Destinations

The Serpentine Gallery's free outdoor cinema returned to Hyde Park for a third year in summer 2008, screening films on Friday and Saturday evenings on the gallery's grounds. The 2008 programme was curated around works by that year's Serpentine Pavilion architect Frank Gehry, alongside a mix of contemporary and archival films. Screenings were free and unticketed; audience members brought their own picnics and blankets. The pavilion itself -- a different design each year by a leading international architect -- served as the backdrop.

The outdoor cinema had become one of the most-attended free events in the London summer calendar. Other major London outdoor film venues that year included Somerset House, Cantelowes Park, and the Scoop amphitheatre at More London Riverside.
