Arkansas City, Arkansas: Outdoor Movie Street Party

Arkansas City's National Night Out block party in 2008 drew about 200 people downtown, capping the evening with an outdoor movie on a large screen on Fifth Avenue at Summit Street. About 150 stayed for the 9 p.m. screening of Horton Hears a Who!, sponsored by U.S. Cellular, with free popcorn, bottled water, and pizza from Pizza Hut. Street lights made visibility a bit difficult, but the sound worked fine. A U.S. Cellular employee floated making the outdoor movie a monthly event -- Summit Street is city property and can be closed at will.
